PIXEurope is the pilot line focusing on accelerating the development, manufacturing, and adoption of advanced Photonic Integrated Circuits (PICs) in Europe.
The PIXEurope Pilot Line focuses on advancing photonic integrated circuit (PIC) technologies and manufacturing processes. Bringing together 20 partners from 11 European countries, it provides a collaborative platform for industry and research to develop and integrate innovative solutions across the entire PIC value chain—from design and chip fabrication to hybrid integration, packaging, testing, and reliability. Supported by €400 million in funding from the Chips Joint Undertaking of the European Commission and coordinated by ICFO, PIXEurope offers access to state-of-the-art equipment and expertise to accelerate the transition of emerging photonic technologies from research to scalable manufacturing. By fostering partnerships and knowledge exchange, it aims to strengthen Europe’s leadership and competitiveness in this critical technology sector.
Accelerating the development of photonic chip technology, which is essential for high-speed computing, communications, and quantum information systems.
Establishing an optimized prototyping chain that includes design, fabrication, integration, testing, and reliability to demonstrate accelerated product development and scalable manufacturability.
