MicroNanoSpain is Spain's Chips Competence Centre, uniting leading research institutes, universities, and industry to strengthen the national semiconductor ecosystem through innovation, training, and knowledge transfer.
The MicroNanoSpain Competence Centre serves as Spains national hub for semiconductor and microelectronics expertise under the EU Chips Act. Its mission is to expand and reinforce Spains semiconductor sector by offering an integrated platform that connects national capabilities with European infrastructure. Organized around three pillarsCapacities, Competences & Skills, and Knowledge Transferthe centre provides access to advanced micro- and nanofabrication facilities (via the MICRONANOFABS network), supports workforce development through tailored training programs, and drives innovation via an Open Innovation Hub and Venture Builder for startups.
The initiative is coordinated by the Spanish Semiconductor Industry Association (AESEMI), with participation from leading institutions including the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC), Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya (UPC), Universitat Politecnica de Valencia (UPV), and Universidad Politecnica de Madrid (UPM). In addition, a broad network of Spanish universities and research centres contributes as associated partners, ensuring nationwide coverage and knowledge sharing.
By consolidating resources, strengthening training, and facilitating technology transfer, MicroNanoSpain positions Spain as a key contributor to Europes semiconductor value chain, supporting startups, SMEs, and large industry players alike.
