Championing a European Advanced Manufacturing Pilot Line of Ion-Traps CHAMP-ION is driving Europes leadership in ion-trap quantum technologies by establishing an inclusive, sustainable pilot line network for high-quality ITC production.
The initiative provides the full value chainfrom design to microfabrication and testingenabling scalable, mass-producible ion-trap chips with integrated electronic and photonic features. By creating Europes first open-access pilot production capabilities and developing advanced Process Design Kits (PDKs), CHAMP-ION secures the EU supply chain and fosters SME and start-up participation.
This central hub will empower a competitive, resilient ecosystem for quantum communication, sensing, and computing, strengthening EU strategic autonomy for the next decade.
The consortium structure ensures access to all key capabilities required for reliable, high-quality quantum chip manufacturing and validation.
Standardised Traps (based on PDK1-4)
Access a portfolio of standardised ion-trap designs based on the CHAMP-ION Process Design Kits (PDKs). These designs provide a reliable, validated and scalable starting point for a wide range of quantum technology applications.
Customized Traps (based on the individual design and process flow)
Develop application-specific ion-trap chips tailored to individual technical requirements. CHAMP-ION supports customised designs through dedicated process development, fabrication and validation services.
Individual services
Access individual pilot line services across the entire value chain, from design support and process development to fabrication, packaging and testing. Services can be selected individually or combined to address specific project needs and technology requirements.
Trainings
Offers trainings aligned with the objectives of the EU Chips Act to support the semiconductor industry and quantum ecosystem.
Ecosystem & Infrastructure
To establish a stable, high-quality fabrication infrastructure capable of delivering reliable and reproducible ion-trap devices.
Technology uptake
To create a structured pathway for technology uptake, enabling new developments such as photonic integration, advanced materials, cryogenic technologies, and novel architectures to be evaluated and eventually incorporated into future pilot line offerings.
