The European Semiconductor Collaboration Days, organized by the Hungarian Chip Competence Centre (HCHiP), were a success! The two-day international conference, held under the motto “Chips Without Borders,” brought together key European industry players, research institutes, and SMEs in the capital.

The event directly supported the strategic goals of the European Chips Act: strengthening Europe’s technological autonomy and doubling its global market share.

The key focus areas shaping the future:

•    International Networks: The connection between European Chip Competence Centers (aCCCess) and domestic players is strengthening.

•    Pilot Lines: New infrastructures are opening up that provide testing opportunities for SMEs and startups without requiring capital-intensive investments (Chips Joint Undertaking).

The keynote presenters were in thos two topic:

  • Matei ARGHIRESCU, Programme Officer at Chips JU

  • Alessandro DONDO, Technical Project Manager, aCCCess FG4

•    Hungarian strengths: Heterogeneous integration and advanced semiconductor packaging have been given a prominent role as domestic specializations.

•    Talent development: Ensuring a new generation of specialists through university programs and targeted training is essential.

The mission of the HCHiP was presented by Dr. Andrea PAP CSIKÓSNÉ, Consortium Leader of HCHiP.

The consortium specialities were highilited by

  • Ákos JANCSI, Division Director, Materials and Technologies Division (Bay)

  • Dr. Péter FÜRJES, Head of Department, Microsystems Department (HUN-REN)

  • Dr. Balázs PLESZ, Associate Professor, Department of Electron Devices (BME)

Sustainable European chip manufacturing requires not only gigafactories but also strong, local innovation ecosystems. HCHiP (led by Bay Zoltán Applied Research Nonprofit Ltd. in partnership with the Budapest University of Technology and Economics and the HUN-REN Energy Research Center) is working to integrate Hungarian companies into this continental value chain.

In this mission, HCHiP has excellent industrial partners in Hungary, but the infrastructure of the consortium members is also available for implementing innovative ideas through HCHiP’s service catalog, both within and beyond the country’s borders. For this reason, conference participants were able to visit all three institutions.
