AT-C³

AT-C³ supports Austria’s chip innovation via advanced R&D, startup support, SME programs, and EU-wide collaboration for semiconductor resilience.

The Austrian Chips Competence Center (AT-C³) is a national initiative under the European Chips Act, aiming to strengthen Europe’s semiconductor ecosystem. Formed by a consortium of six leading Austrian organizations, AT-C³ serves as a “Chip Design & Prototyping Support Center” and focuses on innovation in advanced materials, thin-film technologies, and quantum/photonics applications. In collaboration with regional partners, it extends expertise to analog mixed-signal design, power electronics, packaging, and secure communications.

Motivated by the complexity and strategic importance of semiconductor technologies, AT-C³ seeks to close gaps in development speed, access to fabrication, and skilled workforce. It acts as a one-stop-shop for industry and academia, connecting Austrian stakeholders to European pilot lines, design platforms, and funding mechanisms such as ENCCC and the Chips Fund.

The center plans to conduct 50–60 Expert Service to Third Party (ETSP) projects, deliver 70–80 support measures, and provide open access to training and education. AT-C³ commits to sustainability, gender diversity, and climate neutrality while ensuring over half of its funding targets startups and SMEs. With support from EU, FFG, and Chips JU, key coordinators include MCL, PCCL, SAL, and TUG.
